A bittersweet copper anniversary of making water.

Being in business for 12,5 years is quite an achievement. The Dutch refer to it as the copper anniversary. We are happy to go along, as copper has antibacterial properties in water and you know we love water.

At the same time, we can’t ignore the gravity of the latest report of the Global Commission on the Economics of Water”We can no longer count on freshwater availability for our collective future. More than 1,000 children under five die every day from illnesses caused by unsafe water and sanitation. Food systems are running out of fresh water, and cities are sinking as the aquifers underneath them run dry. ”

The effect on changing availability of fresh water will negatively affect countries’ GDP varying between 8-15%, unless we act. Their website has impressive visuals and information for anyone interested in the subject.

Today, we are producing clean water using only the sea and sunshine in over 30 countries and for over 200.000 people in developing communities. Although there are so many people enjoying our safe water daily, it’s bittersweet to realize there’s still a long way to go to ensure affordable clean water for all.

Scaling up for Madagascar communities.

With over 9 million people living in rural communities without access to safe water, there is plenty of opportunity to do good. Together with the Elemental Water Foundation, we have deployed another project in the southwest area that is as dry as a desert.

A solar-powered desalination system installed in the remote community of Anja-Belitsaka, Madagascar, produces 30,000 litres of high-quality fresh water per day using salt water and sunshine. The freshwater is distributed through a piped water supply network and a water kiosk at a modest rate that covers operational expenses and ensures a sustainable business model. In doing so, the project also provides opportunities for local economic development.

We are currently working on several more projects in Madagascar to improve access to clean water.

Water resilience for villas and resorts.

Many regions had a difficult summer in terms of ensuring access to fresh water. Water restrictions were put in place and businesses were at the mercy of their water company or paying the expensive water truck.

We are currently finishing desalination projects for villas and resorts in Curaçao, Turks and Caicos, Belize, Spain and Colombia. All these projects have in common that there is a need for a resilient water supply, saving 50-80% on the water bills is an attractive idea and minimizing the carbon dioxide footprint is a welcome bonus.
