Each location has its own water demand.

On an archipelago such as Indonesia, access to fresh water is key for communities, industries and tourism. With over 17.000 islands, not all of them have sufficient fresh water reserves. From seawater or brackish groundwater, clean water can easily be obtained, using desalination powered by solar energy.

At a nursery for small plants in Indonesia, we have installed a solar energy powered brackish water desalination system assisted by gravity. The fresh water is for irrigation purposes. This project has been the result of a cooperation between the University of Technology Delft, The Netherlands and the Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia and has won several prestigious innovation awards.
