Clean water for a community a dry and conflicted region.

Yemen is considered one of the world’s most water- scarce countries. About 18 million people lack access to safe water and sanitation, and providing drinking water will likely be one of the biggest problems that people will encounter in the coming years. Complicating the issue is the fact that conflict has had a severe impact on water infrastructure. Average annual rainfall varies, with droughts already affecting some areas – two issues exacerbated by climate change.

For this project, EWM worked together with the NGO CARE International, who has a country office in Yemen. CARE has been involved in the preparation of the project on-site, as well as during the capacity building & knowledge transfer to ensure operation and maintenance of the project. For this purpose, a WASH engineer of CARE has been trained to commissioning, start and operate the solar desalination project that will provide the community with safe water.

We are proud to be part of this project and hope we can enable many more communities in Yemen with clean water.
