Clean and reliable fresh water for the municipality.

New Caledonia is a French territory comprising dozens of islands in the South Pacific. It’s known for its palm-lined beaches and marine-life-rich lagoon, which, at 24,000-sq.-km, is among the world’s largest.

The availability of water resources is an issue of growing concern in New Caledonia and one of the top priorities for shared water policy. The supply, distribution and management of water falls within the competence of New Caledonia’s municipal authorities, who can either choose to keep this service to consumers under local government control or decide to call on a specialised company with whom they conclude a contract delegating the task of providing the service.

Together with our local New Caledonian partner, we have delivered an off-grid. solar-powered seawater desalination solution to safeguard sufficient clean water. By using the sun, no fossil fuels are involved. By utilizing our energy-efficient desalination solution, 70% less electricity is required and no chemicals are involved to operate and maintain the unit. Last but not least, the salt water flow leaving the process has a minimized concentration to avoid any negative impact on the pristine environment.

“Access to clean water used to be a great challenge for our municipality. We are in an isolated location and do not have access to sufficient natural water resources. We are very pleased with the solar desalination technology that uses no chemicals and little energy”
